A Twist in My Little Village

July 12, 2018

The extent of rice fields stretched, the green leaves of shady trees, and the fresh morning air made people able to forget the problems of their life. It was kinda impossible found a congestion, because there were only bicycles and people who walked with carefree and sweet smile from the look on his face. That was a little picture of my hometown in one of the villages in Bandung.

Well, hi peeps! Welcome.

So, today I was missing my place so bad. My old village. When in the morning, children went to school wore their maroon uniforms and vests that made them looked cute and adorable. A small conversation came from the mouths of those little friends. Spoke the Sundanese language, and interspersed with crisp laughter, crossed the houses to reach their destination. The mothers and fathers who were doing activities around the house also seemed to greet and shook hands with each other. In the past, it all seemed so reassuring, and I always wanted to go and spend time there. Yes, in the past.

Now, many things have changed in my village. The rise of trucks that pass by produce dust and make people uncomfortable. In the other hand, trucks are the important transportation that we use to load thousands of brick molds that are the main livelihood for the people. And sadly, the children who should play and study at school, now have to fight with a rough and dirty place of producing bricks commonly called "lio".
Some of my old friends chose to drop out from their school and work in lio. Various types of jobs are available in lio, such as bricklayers, brick carrier from lio to truck, and as a driver also the co-driver. Not only adults, the children look very enthusiastic to follow the steps of parents and brothers who work there.

When I asked them one by one, they have almost the same reason, which is to help ease the burden on the parents. In addition, they consider the school is not so important when they have been able to earn their own money. They feel happy to do that.

“Of course, that way, we are more independent.” Said one of my old friends.
“Well, as long as I know, the goal of people in school is to achieve higher education that will be used to make money. Then why do we have to wait a long time to work if we can do it now? Besides, we, villagers, cannot afford to pay very expensive school fees without a dequate facilities.” He added.

I was just stunned by those words.

What exactly happened here? I thought. While educational standards are still not good, people are thinking that schools serve only as a bridge that will help to achieve the working world.

I dont know what to say, but I think we have to change the paradigm and create the real paradigm, that education is very important and make education as a need for us to be able to reach all that aspired. We. Everything will be good if we can be cooperate. no matter who are you, as long as we have a same vision in managing something to be better in next, we have to walk together. Let's not waste an educational opportunity. Because many of our friends out there are eager to get an education.***
