Independence Day at Cicalengka

August 18, 2019

“Kanggo peserta ti RW 01, RW 01, enggal gareura baris urang jalan, bisi kaburu siang, mana nu sanesna enggal baris. Hayu hayu mumpung can panas, karunya nu sanesna engke.”

(“For the participants from hamlet number 1 can move now, where are the rest? Call them before the sun shines warmer”.)

A faint sound from a man who was coordinating an event in my village.

Well, hi peeps! Welcome.

That morning was the same as the previous mornings. Cold air filled almost the entire room in the house. That’s not a thing, because my house is at the foot of a mountain in a village in Cicalengka. I slowly pulled my blanket to keep my body warm. I saw the clock and it was 5.27 a.m, I tried to move and prayed. There was a noise in the living room, some teenagers were dressed up and looked some were wearing unique costumes.
August 17, that day was my country's independence day. Indeed, every year people celebrate Independence Day with a variety ways. But the tradition in my village, people will walk together like a parade in general using unique costumes with high creativity, finally they were lined up on a large field to run a flag ceremony.

6 am, one by one left the house, the rest was me who immediately followed to go to the main street of the village to see the parade that day. Alright, the citizen have stood on the side of the road to enjoy the creativity of young people with costumes and attributes which have respective philosophies. Much smiles are created from the creativity. The old who are very entertained talk about the development of the country from year to year, while young people still enjoy the parade by capturing some pictures and videos.
The parade lasted from 6 a.m to 8 a.m because there were so many participants and they had to line up neatly without disturbing other road users. Sometimes people gave money, food, shouts of excitement, even drinking water. That’s kinda form of appreciation for the parade participants, as well as provisions during the trip (They will walk about 3km) to the ceremonial court.

Each region has its own tradition of celebrating the Independence Day, and what we have to respect is how enthusiastically they welcomed it. All preparations are made as good as they can in order to create a happy and lively atmosphere. That’s such a form of love for this country. From early in the morning, they took a break from all routine and gathered to enjoy the moment of independence together. At least that's what is reflected in my village.

Furthermore, I believe that the citizens of this country have an extraordinary passion for unity, especially for the integrity of the country. Just hope this country gets better every time and gets more love from the people. It is our duty to keep our nation name good and also make our country proud in every way we can.***
