Review Animal Farm (A Novel by George Orwell)

October 29, 2018

When we were child, I think some of us have been given stories about animals. How they could interact each other, and acted like the real one that we used to meet in the real life. In the end, our parents explained the messages about how important is… or, don’t be like…, etc. Likewise with the book that will be discussed below, a book entitled Animal Farm by George Orwell. This is one of the phenomenal stories in literature. What does this book tell about?

Well, hi peeps! Welcome.

Generally, this book tells a story of the lives of animals on a Mr. Jones farm, or known well as Manor farm. In the farm, the lives of animals were highly exploited. They were only used as mere commodities, which will end on the dining table as a meal. There was no freedom at all.

One night, one of the pigs that was respected by other animals, the Old Major, gathered the animals to tell his dreams and about the rebellion against humans. Unfortunately, not long from that, exactly three days after he led a meeting with other animals, the old major died. The animals felt that they have lost the figure they respect all that time. However, they could feel the presence of the old major in the middle of the farm. Making his ideas for a world without humans continued.

Over time, finally the day of the rebellion arrived. Under the leadership of two intelligent pigs who were able to summarize and apply the ideas of the old major, Snowball and Napoleon led the animals in a great rebellion.

Then, what is the result of the rebellion? Are they finally master the farm? If yes, will the atmosphere on the farm changes? And if not, how about their next life?

In my opinion, Orwell is one of the best political authors. Because some of his works are under politically themed (according to my interpretation). And Animal Farm is one of the best. How can people create a great political and allegory work through this simple story. Taking the animal life with a background on the farm theme, make people will be more interested in reading it. And the big point of this novel in my opinion is, how we can fight against the dictator characteristic in ourselves. Yes, because that characteristic is kind of foolishness. And foolishness, for me is our greatest enemy all this time in life. ***
